Conference Wide Renzaglia, Karen S. [1], Osborn, Jeffrey M. [2]. What Works for Me: Students’ Perspectives on the Graduate School Experience. This interactive discussion session will be facilitated by a panel of graduate students and will explore the rewards and challenges of graduate education in plant biology. Educators and students at all levels are encouraged to attend and to share their experiences and perspectives on the value and rigors of pursuing an advanced degree.
Topics discussed will include: How to prepare for graduate study; choosing a graduate school and finding financial aid; choosing an advisor/mentor; overcoming personal, social, family, financial and gender-related obstacles; the transition to graduate school; the value of networking and strategies for establishing professional relationships; professional development including publishing and
